Big Rewards Are Earned By Taking Big Risks

With big risks comes even bigger rewards.

That’s according to Greg Bell, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Corelight–and our most recent guest on the True Builders podcast. If you’re thinking of founding your own company, of starting your own business–Greg said just take that difficult first step.

“It’s so easy to fool yourself and believe you don’t quite have what it takes yet,” he told podcast host Josh Withers. “A lot of people have that belief and it’s somewhat limiting.”

Greg said that even if you only have some plans in place–the risk just might pay off.

“There’s ingredients, like your appetite for risk, and your support systems around you, and the opportunity has to be there. But given those ingredients, and if you can’t stop thinking about taking the leap, I would encourage you to try it.”

I learned a lot about myself, and my style of leadership. And I was tested and frustrated but on balance really, really rewarded by it. So, I would just say go ahead and take the leap.

Greg and Josh also spoke about:

  • How funding will come if you have a great idea, but a good culture is tough to fake.
  • Learning on the job and from others.
  • Hiring the right people for a startup.
  • AI’s impact on business-use cases in the future.
  • Staying curious about everything.
